Last One Against the Braves

IMG_2757 (640x640)

I know that this is long overdue but wanted to get it in before I start writing about the Rays games.

This was weather and science day so there were a tons of kids there and a lot of kids on the wall before the game. No graphs yet again but hey what’s new.

This was a great game! The weather was amazing (compared to the last few games). Pitching for the Colorado Rockies was Tyler Chatwood and for the Atlanta Braves was Tim Hudson. The Rockies were the first to strike in the 2nd inning with a solo homerun but Cuddy and then another shot right after to left field by Rutledge. Rockies end inning on top 0-2.

The third inning was very quick with 3-up and 3-down on both sides, but in the 4th the Braves got on the scoreboard when Freeman doubled and then Juan Francisco singles which then scored Freeman. The Braves ended up going ahead by a single by the pitcher Tim Hudson.  3-2 Braves.

IMG_2758 (480x640)

The Rockies on the other hand came back in the 4th and countered by a single by our pitcher Tyler Chatwood, Nelson scores. 3-3.

The 5th was another 1-2-3 on the both sides which kept the game going. With 1 out I the 6th inning the Braves scored by a throwing error by Jonathan Herrera and the next batter Schafer brought Uggla across the plate.  5-3 B Braves.

The Rockies went quietly in the 6th inning, which brings us to the 7th inning. Ottavino came in to pitch the 7th inning, the Braves ended up going 1-2-3. Rockies ended up going 1-2-3 in the 7th as well, Braves still up 5-3. Ottavino gave up one hit in the 8th but no runs. The Rockies didn’t get any runs in the 8th inning, we head to the 9th with the Braves still on top 5-3.

Rex Brothers came in to pitch the 9th and did not give up a run. Headed to the bottom of the 9th the Rockies needed to get 2 runs to tie it and 3 to win. Dexter ended up hitting a double which scored 2 and tied up the game at 5-5.

IMG_2759 (480x640)

Betancourt and Belisle came in to pitch the 10th – 12th innings. The Rockies ended up winning the game with a single by Yorvit Torrealba. The Rockies win in 12 over the Braves 5-6! Great way to end the homestand and a great travel day for them.

IMG_2760 (640x480)

This is it for game 3 between the Rockies and Braves, Braves taking the series 2-1.

Played a Double but I only went to One

4/23/13

Since Monday was yet another Snow day and since the game was postponed they decided to have yet another doubleheader on Tuesday. Due to class I was not able to make it to game 1 but was able to make it to game 2.

I watched 7th inning through the rest of the game at Jacksons then Rox Addict came over to get some food and then we headed over to Coors to freeze during game 2.

IMG_2745 (480x640)

On the hill for the Rockies was Jon Garland and on the mound for the Braves was Julio Teheran.

DSCN2551 (640x480)

It started out as a very good game! Neither team scored through the first 2 innings and the game went by rather quickly until the Braves warmed up.

DSCN2552 (640x480)

The Rockies scored first in the bottom of the 3rd inning by a single from Michael Cuddyer (EY scores). Rockies on top 0-1.  That didn’t last long thought the Braves scored 3 in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and 1 in the 6th, while the Rockies didn’t score ANY! Braves on top 6-1.

DSCN2553 (640x480)

The next two innings went by very quick with neither team scoring but then the 9th the Rockies Josh Outman gave up 4 runs, making the score 10-1 heading into the 9th.

DSCN2554 (640x480)

I wish I could say that the Rockies had a magical run in the 9th inning but they only ended up getting 1 and ending the game with a final score of 10-2.

DSCN2556 (640x480)

DSCN2558 (640x480)

Rockies looked like a different team. Not sure if they are getting tired already or if they were cold but losing both games on the double-header just plain right SUCKED!

DSCN2559 (640x480)

Let’s hope they get back to winning and stay in the leading spot.

This is it from a FREEZING game, yet again.

How Sweep It Is? Or Is It Even Considered a Sweep?

 4/18/13

Relief pictures headed to Bullpen

Even though the Mets and Rockies only got three games in The Rockies won all three. I’m not sure if it is considered a sweep or if it isn’t because they didn’t get one game in. O well let’s call it what it is… that is a WIN!

Double Header in the Cold Cold Weather

IMG_2616 (640x640)

4/16/13

What a wonderful way to spend a day watching baseball, unless you are in Colorado and sitting in 30 degree weather. It was a very cold and snowy day and we thought that after the blizzard the day before we were not going to get one game in.

Most of the morning we kept up to the hour with updates from twitter and I stayed in contact with Rox Addict about game times and if they were going to play. Sure enough at about 9 am they had the front office, owners, coaches, and TV personal out on the field shoveling.

IMG_2617 (640x480)

Jon and Mariano

1st game which was a makeup of the game on 4/15 was suppose to start at 1:10 but kept getting delayed and first pitch was finally thrown at 3 pm. I showed up in the middle of the first inning right before the Rockies were up to bat.

IMG_2618 (640x480)

Myself and Rox Addict

Man it was FREEZING! The wind was coming off the field and was blowing right towards us, which was very unpleasant.

IMG_2619 (640x480)

The Rockies gave up 2 runs in the first inning but they ended up getting 1 of those runs back in the 2nd inning and 1 in the 3rd inning. So going into the top of the forth we were tied at 2.

IMG_2620 (640x480)

In the top of the 4th and 5th the Mets scored 1 each and the Rockies came back and scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th and another in the 6th making the score 4-5. The Mets did not score anymore runs in this game but the Rockies put a few more on the board in the bottom of the 8th with 2. Final score of game one was 4-8 Rockies on top.

IMG_2621 (640x480)

IMG_2623 (640x480)

David Wright’s 2nd HR

They had only a 30ish minute break between games so Rox Addict, Jersey Geoff, and I went up to the Game Used booth and I picked up my Opening Day nameplate.

IMG_2630 (480x640)

By the time we got back over to the first-base side some of the guys had changed into their throwback uniforms and were warming up on the field.

I ended up getting JP (only thing that got signed) and Nelly ended up signing but I didn’t have anything for him so just said hey.

The game started at 6:45 which is only 5 minutes after the original start time.

IMG_2632 (640x480)

Old school scoreboard

On the mound for game 2 was Francis. He was very shaky and by the 5th inning the Rockies were down 8-6.

The Rockies slowly crawled back in the game in the 8th inning with scoring 2 runs, making the score 8-8 tying the game up.

IMG_2633 (640x480)

Both wore throwback jerseys

It was freezing and all I wanted to do was go home. After the end of the ninth we went onto the 10th were the Rockies ended up hitting a walk off single to right field, which scored Carlos Gonzalez and put the Rockies ahead to win the game. The best part was the fact that they ended up celebrating right down the first baseline right in front of us. As soon as the game was over I headed straight to the car and took off my wet socks and shoes and headed home. It was a VERY VERY long and cold day but well worth it watching the Rockies beat the Mets twice.

This is it for this game! Keep any eye out for the 4/18 day game against the Mets. I’m about to head out to the Rockies VS Diamondbacks, but if you see me around Coors make sure you say hey!

Day 1: Fun in the Sun

We started the morning off in Goodyear at the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds training facility. The Indian’s and Red’s have a great facility and pretty good access as well.

IMG_2288 (458x458)

Jared and I

We showed up around 8:30 since the gates open at 9:00 to get into the facility. We stopped at the Indians first because former Rockies player Jason Giambi was at camp with them. The Indians team has changed and it seems like it is going to be a good team.  Some of the players they acquired this off season were Nick Swisher, Jason Giambi, and Drew Stubbs.  Hopefully all will be able to produce and they have a decent team. Not only did they pick up players they got a new manager… Terry Francona.  He was a former manager of the ’04 & ’07 World Series Boston Red Sox. It will be interesting where he takes this team. Good Luck to them.

Any who we saw G-man and he came back and signed for all of us. He signed my 2012 team bat along with 8 cards… YES 8 cards. He was amazing taking the time to talk to us and wish us the best and us wishing him the same thing. All the best to Jason and we hope to see him again one day. Michael Brantley, Drew Stubbs, and Mike Aviles also signed a card for me.

After the Indian’s were done we walked over to the Reds camp to see who we could get.

There camp was set up the same and we did not get anything. I did however talk to a man on the other side of the fence while they were hitting batting practice. Turns out it was Ellis Burks! He is coming back by the way on July 28th for his bobble head giveaway day!

IMG_2289 (480x640)

Ellis Burks

After the Red’s were done hitting BP we headed inside to see what graphs we could get. The game we went to was the Oakland Athletics @ Cincinnati Reds.  We decided to stand on the reds side and got a few autographs.

IMG_2291 (480x640)

Brandon Phillips and I

Thanks to Jared’s help I ended up getting 2 Mat Latos cards, 2 Sean Marshall cards, 1 Brandon Phillips card and photo, and 2 Ellis Burks cards. We stayed through the 7th inning then headed to Scottsdale to see the Rockies @ Giants.

Mariano with Jason Giambi’s Cle nameplate

Once we got to the game Jared and I headed down to the wall to see what we could get. The guys were just getting there so we talked to them as they walked by. Most o the players said hey and that they would be back out to sign.  A few minutes later Tanya showed up (She had just drove in from CO) and hung out on the wall with us.

The auto graphs that I got that night ended up being:

Dante Bichette: 2013 Team Helmet

Jerry Weinstein: 2013 Team Helmet

Rex Brothers: 2013 Team Helmet

Brewers Get Rocked

8/13/12

Brewers @ Rockies

First game back after a good road trip for the Rockies and man it was a nice night at the field. Went down early to meet up with Rox Addict and go to batting practice.  I ended up getting 4 balls but then gave them all away. I gave them all away because I was not able to use them. The Brewers take a marker to the sweet spots so you can’t use them to get autographs. This was highly irritating because I got three brewers balls but could not use any of them, so I gave them away.

The scariest thing happened during BP when a kid directly behind me was drilled with a ball in his chest. Thankfully he was OK but just the sound of the ball drilling him was so hollow that I thought he was going to have  a heart attack right then and there.

After BP I headed to the wall with Rox Addict. I didnt get any graphs but it was a relaxing night and the Rockies ended up getting a win. I didn’t take many pictures just because I didn’t have my memory card… yes I forget the card a lot! It was a great great game and Francis pitched VERY VERY WELL!

If you want to know more about the logistics of this game check out Rox Addicts post at

http://roxaddict.mlblogs.com

It was good to see Francis get a win but it was also good to see the home team line up for the hand shakes after a great team effort!

Took One and Two Why Not Three

5/30

It felt like LoDo magic was still in the air from the Memorial Day double-header, but think that a lot of people went in thinking they were going to lose. I might have even been one of those fans walking in not thinking a lot was going to happen.

I showed up just as the gates were opening and walked in to BP with my buddy Garrett. Occupying left field was Josh Outman, Adam Ottavino, Matt Reynolds and Coach Tom Runnells. Garrett ended up scoring a ball from Runnells and I ended up getting one from Wandy Rodriguez. I got a dodger ball and a dad behind me had also got a dodger ball and so I went up to him and offered him two balls for his one and he went for it! So Garrett and I both ended up snagging a Dodger 50th anniversary ball! Rockpile Ranter and Rox Addict were there and Rox Addict didn’t walk away with any but Rockpile cleaned house with 4 count it 4 balls!

After BP Garrett, Rox Addict, Rockpile Ranter and I all headed over to the wall to see what we could score for graphs on the wall. We have been getting to the wall late and so we didn’t get our spot which is ok.

JP did sign again like every other game and got a picture with him! Cargo did also sign at the end but on the other side of where we were standing.

After BP we hung out down the first baseline and watched the game.

We got on the board early with Michael Cuddyer’s Grand Slam (2nd of the year) and kept scoring but our pitching game up runs in the 3rd and the game was then tied 5-5.

Cuddy before grand slam

After grand slam

I was thinking here we go again! It was quiet through the 4th but in the 5th we got a homerun by cargo and then 6 more runs in the 6th to make it 12-5 Rockies!

Number 1

Number 2

I had number 3 but it was the Worst of the 3!

Dexter’s home run

Our last run was a solo homerun by Cargo but it was his 3rd home run of the night! It was truly magical to watch Cargo hit home runs and to make it look SO easy! Rockies ended up winning 13-5 in a magnificent win over the Houston Astros!

Wilin

DJ

Adam Ottavino

Not much player interaction lately but I did end up making it to Dexter and Friends on 5/31. His friend was the one and only Mr. Jordan Pacheco. Jacksons did say that it was at 1 but really it was at 12 so at 1215 I practically ran over to Jacksons from work to hang out and here the show. I already have Pacheco and Fowler for Random Rox Talk so I did not do any Random Rox Talk.  Big thanks though to Fowler and Pacheco for taking time out of their busy day to do to come and interact with everyone!

Next game is 6/1 against the Dodgers!

Let’s hope the Rockies start June off the way they ended May! Winning of course!

The magic was at Coors Field and let’s hope it stays with the team for a while!

Also Check out Rox Addicts blog for more information about this game:

Tulo & Ubaldo Go At It, While Rosters are Revealed

One week till Opening Day and I definitely have RockiesFever! I drove down Blake St earlier this week and noticed that the green stripe was down the middle, which means that the purple will go over it!

First thing we are going to discuss is the brawl between the deuce and U. I did not think that it was going to be that bad but after watching to video it was… INSANE! Things finally got sorted out and unfortunately Ubaldo did get suspended. I heard some people talking today though wondering why Tulo didn’t get suspended too? Their argument was that Tulo threw down the bat first, which triggered Ubaldo to charge at him. Not sure what to think you make your own call.

On to the roster for Opening Day Friday in Houston:

Pitchers:

Jeremy Guthrie*

Juan Nicasio*

Jhoulys Chacin*

Matt Belisle

Rafael Betancourt

Rex Brothers

Tyler Chatwood

Matt Reynolds

Josh Roenicke

Esmil Rodgers

Josh Outman

Jamie Moyer*

Drew Pomeranz*

If you ask me this looks like a pretty solid rotation with a strong bullpen! The * are the pitchers who were named as starters! When Guthrie became a Rockie I was not sure I liked the trade they made but Guthrie more than proved that he was worth it at ST and deserved to be the Opening Day starter in Houston. Moyer, not much you can say about this guy he is amazing and keeps surprising everyone! Chacin or as I like to call him cha ching, he had to step up last year once De La Rosa got hurt and I feel that he can be a great pitcher just might need a little work here and there. Drew Pomeranz, I think he is going to be very dominant in the Rox rotation but needs to mature a little! Last starting pitcher is Juan Nicasio, this the absolutely most amazing thing that could happen to this team. I feel Nicasio is going to keep this team going along with Rockies fans. Belisle, Brothers and Reynolds are going to be a great addition to the Rockies bullpen for sure this season if they all stay stong and healthy!

Catchers:

Ramon Hernandez

Wilin Rosario

You knew that Ianetta was probably headed out at the end of this season no one knew where though. He did end up in CA with the Angels which at first sucked but then after having a raging off-season they came around and received some great players! We did receive Ramon Hernandez from the Reds which should be a good leadership role for Ramon but no one was sure who the back up would be and as you see it is Wilin Roasrio with a third catcher if needed Jordan Pacheco!

Infielders:

Todd Helton

Marco Scutaro

Troy Tulowitzki

Jordan Pacheco

Chris Nelson

Jason Giambi

Jonathan Herrera

There are names here in the infielders that we are not surprised about such as Helton, Tulowitzki, Scutaro and Giambi, but we do have some new guys that yes we see throughout the season now on the Opening Day roster. Chris Nelson this guy has stepped up since we let go of Blake and Stewart but think that certain people can out play him. Johnny Herrera so happy this guy made it up, classy and can play for sure! Jordan Pacheco, I can’t even say enough nice things about this guy, he is an amazing player defensively and offensively great things are coming his way!

Outfielders:

Carlos Gonzalez

Dexter Fowler

Michael Cuddyer

Tyler Colvin

Eric Young Jr.

The outfield is exactly what I thought it was going to be except for Eric Young Jr on the roster and Charlie Blackmon not on the roster…. Was super surprised but EY worked hard during this off-season and I’m more than positive we will see Charlie back up in the majors in no time.

Overall strong roster but my sleeper pick would have to be Jordan Pacheco and Rex Brothers. Both will be under dogs and yes they have weaknesses like other players but I think that they will have an amazing year up in the majors. I also believe that Dexter will get his groove back once back at Coors Field, if Jim Tracey has faith in this guy, I have faith in this guy too. I do not think that this is going to be a set roster but lets see where it takes us this first month and go from there!

I will be starting a thing in my blog called Random Rox Talk, this is where I will be asking one Random Rockies player 5 questions. Let me know who you would like to hear from and possible questions. First Rockie is going to be my pal Jordan Pacheco who said he would do it! So if you have questions just comment below and we will pick 5 random!

One week till back at 20th and Blake!

Be ready I don’t know about you but I have ROCKIESFEVER!

Catch you at Coors Field!
